You read that correctly, this is going to be a blog dedicated to Rogue Trader/40K Squats. 40k is now in its 9th edition, but there is an appeal to me in the old 1st and 2nd edition figures that cannot be fully replicated today. My father collected 24 squats back when they were originally released, and for a long time I have been interested in them. But this year, I decided to take that interest a step further and fully realize that original 3-squad army by reorganizing it into a Grand Army of the Squats. I have accumulated a number of original figures second-hand and am now working on a few of them to test color schemes. I want them to look similar to my father's original platoon, but at the same time, want them to stand on their own (plus I have no idea what paint he used some 30 years ago).
Here is my dad's original platoon.
And here are some of my new acquisitions that I am working on. The guild-master is one of the hardest miniatures I have tried to paint.
Look forward to more on this blog as I delve into painting, collecting, and organizing this Squat army. My master plan is to build a large force, have it painted, and then host a game at an HMGS convention (whenever those are a thing again in a post-COVID world) where the last-stand of the Squats will be reenacted fighting against an opposing Tyrannid army!
Cheers,
